Clock Dial Restoration Update
Dedicated to those that died in World War IDear Residents and Friends of Lepton Village,
We are delighted to report our fundraising target for the clock dial restoration has been reached through a combination of voluntary donations and grant funding. Thank you so much for your support. We shall now be able to plan to have the restoration work undertaken in April/May of this year. Future updates will be posted on our Facebook page and church newsletter.
One of the most important is the clock and four dials installed and dedicated in 1921 by the then residents of Lepton to remember those from the village who died in the Great War of 1914 – 1918. Their names are recorded on the granite tablet to the right of the main tower doors (to which were added the names of those who died in WW2) while another tablet to the left refers to the clock. The dial on the north face of the tower is particularly splendid as it is painted with gold leaf outlining.

With such a long passage of time it is not surprising that the condition of the dial has deteriorated and while periodic maintenance has been done over the years sadly it is now in a poor visual state.
The dial will be restored to its former glory to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and how appropriate that we do this as another act of remembrance as the nation commemorates VE Day and VJ Day 80 years ago.
